Housekeeper Hits Jackpot On Glen Burnie Scratch-Off
GLEN BURNIE, MD - A Glen Burnie housekeeper won a $50,000 jackpot on a scratch-off recently.
The anonymous woman scratched off the top prize on Jan. 22. She collected her check from the Maryland Lottery headquarters with her boyfriend the next day.
“I just kept saying, ‘No,’” the winner recalled in a Jan. 25 press release.
Her boyfriend bought the $5 Holiday Cash scratcher at Check Cash Depot in Glen Burnie. He tried to convince her it was real.
“He kept trying, but I refused to believe it was true,” she said. “How could this happen to us?”
The victor eventually came to terms with her prize when she scanned the ticket on her boyfriend's lottery smartphone app and saw her payout.
“It is such a happy thing for us,” she said. “We are so lucky.”
The couple's win is a shake-up from their normal lottery routine, as the boyfriend is usually the only one interested in buying tickets.
“I usually give him a hard time about buying tickets,” the girlfriend said. “I finally gave in and told him that if he was going to buy them, to get one for me.”
Check Cash Depot #026, located at 7560 Ritchie Highway, will get a $500 bonus for selling the jackpot winner.
Holiday Cash debuted in October 2023 with eight top prizes of $50,000 each. Four jackpots and five $5,000 second-tier winners are still up for grabs.
