ReplyThanks, Mrs. Andraka, and also to Jack for the interview. Jack's a great kid. I kept thinking to myself, "He looks 15, but doesn't sound it."

On the Blog Post Why You Should Rescue Your Next Pet
Jennifer Donatelli

ReplyGood article, but it would have been nice if other rescues and species could have been included. I know, this was written by a dog rescue, but any number of organizations, like the SPCA or the Humane Society, could have written something similar. Or I could have done it for you. As someone who's had guinea pigs for nearly 22 years, I can tell you the guinea pig overpopulation problem is unbelievable, but most don't know about adopting from shelters or rescues. And I'm sure the same could be said for many other species.
The other point to emphasize, especially with this being the week of Hanukkah and Christmas coming before many of us would like to admit, is that pets - rescue or not - should not be purchased or adopted as gifts. The entire family should be involved to make sure it's a good fit, so the likelihood of kids getting bored with the pet and having the parents dump it at a rescue because they can't or don't want to take care of it is reduced.
A pet, whatever the species and whatever its origins or background, is a lifetime responsibility. Any pet, bought, adopted or rescued, ideally should have its owner's home as its forever home.

ReplyIf we are allowed to plug causes with which we volunteer, may I suggest the Arundel Neighborhoods Association? The Facebook link is https://www.facebook.com/groups/ananow/. We have posted recaps of our meetings, links to pertinent news articles and information from our website, www.ananow.org. Thanks!

ReplyAngie,
You might want to correct your association's name to the Brooklyn Heights Improvement Association before other associations raise objections.
Thanks,

ReplyLooks like LaFontaine Bleue to me. I'm not staff, so I can still compete, right? Not that there's a prize for winning, as far as I know, other than the satisfaction of knowing your community. :)

ReplyAnd a lot of people other faiths - Christians, included - and non-believers (e.g. atheists) want to do us harm too. Also, a lot of Muslims died Sept. 11. Most are peace-loving people. Presidents Obama and Bush both said the war on terror is not a war on Islam. I respectfully ask Maya to take such down such defamatory comments because they violate Patch's policy.

ReplyAfter you hit the Aquatic Center, you could go to the skate park next to the Pascal Senior Center. Or you could hit the mini golf on Dorsey Road. Or you could bike the B&A Trail past the Planet Walk. The Sun station (no, not the newspaper, but the statue) is next to Harundale Plaza.
Still doing a bag giveaway? ;)

Nice to see the thought of the priest for my hometown parish on the new pope. Monsignor Picard is an excellent priest.
