BWI's Southwest Airlines Featured in 'On the Fly'

The show filmed at Southwest counters and terminals in airports across the country—including at BWI Thurgood Marshall Aiport—premiered last Thursday on TLC.

Television viewers get a glimpse into the days of Southwest Airlines employees and passengers at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) with the premiere of On the Fly last Thursday on TLC. The reality show, which airs every Thursday at 9 p.m., will feature portions filmed at BWI's Southwest, as well as other airports across the country. "On the Fly gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the large-scale operations and personal customer stories at Southwest Airlines," according to the show's website. "Each episode introduces viewers to Southwest Airlines employees who must think on their feet as they cope with weather delays, irate passengers and more surprising situations. I loved watching Airline. They also filmed at BWI. Sometimes it was amusing but more often my heart really went out to those employees having to deal with some of the rudest people I've ever seen. I forgot to watch On the Fly Thursday, but will make sure watch in next week. Thanks.   more ›

Orioles Work As Southwest Employees for a Day

In an effort to reach out to the community and show support of their official airline, two Baltimore Orioles veteran pitchers, starter Jeremy Guthrie and reliever Jim Johnson, acted as Southwest Airlines (SWA) “Sub-Ins” for a day at BWI Thursday afternoon.  Guthrie, Johnson and even the Oriole Bird checked customers in at the main terminal, greeted passengers, conducted the boarding procedure and even helped unload baggage from airplanes. “It feels great to help out,” Guthrie said. “I fly Southwest Airlines all the time.” Guthrie displayed a wonderful sense of humor while conducting a trivia game for passengers waiting to board a flight bound for West Palm Beach.
