Cracker Barrel Coming to Linthicum

Crews are expected to break ground on the future site of the restaurant by the end of March.

Local fans of Cracker Barrel will have their wishes granted soon, as the country-style restaurant chain is set to open its first location in Anne Arundel County by the end of the year. Cracker Barrel Country Store Inc. signed a lease for a location at BWI Technology Park III, adjacent to the airport and Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to a statement from St. John Properties. Crews are expected to break ground in late March on what will be a nearly 9,000-square-foot freestanding building. "Securing the first Cracker Barrel restaurant and store in Anne Arundel County is a significant win," said Bill Holzman, assistant vice president for retail leasing for St. John Properties. The restaurant will join several other chain restaurants …

Hip Hop Fish & Chicken

Once you try this place, you will not want fried chicken from anywhere else.

A new restaurant opened up recently in Glen Burnie that always had a crowd inside, so I wanted to find out for myself why it was so popular. Hip Hop Fish & Chicken is what’s happening. The restaurant, located where Ayubi's Chicken and Kabob sat on Ritchie Highway, offers fish and chicken combos for $8.49. Some of the choices of fish include catfish, ocean perch, tilapia and trout. Some chicken choices include tenders, breasts, wings and nuggets. The meals are served with fries, coleslaw and bread. The two-piece chicken breast dinner is only $4.49 and I cannot stress how great of a deal that is for two people. It comes with two large breasts that are caramelized in a sweet sugar-like substance that is addictive. The two pieces of white …

Got Milkshake?

Am I the only person who craves ice cream and milkshakes year-round? Here are some Patch editors' picks for where to grab a good shake.

It doesn't matter what the temperature is, I'm always down to grab a milkshake or some ice cream. Is anyone else with me? I had my first experience with Ann's Dari-Creme last spring, after months of people suggesting it to me, and wasn't disappointed with my vanilla shake. With a few locally-owned ice cream shops to choose from in Glen Burnie, Ann's has stood the test of time—including having customer support stop them from being bought out by Marley Station mall. Stop by the lunch counter that's known just as well for its shakes as its footlongs. Choose from flavors including vanilla, chocolate, orange and banana. They don't take credit cards, but they recently added an ATM in case you forget some cash. Here are recommended milkshake …

Dining Out on Christmas Day

Don't celebrate Christmas? Or just don't feel like cooking a huge Christmas dinner? Here are some places near Glen Burnie where you can leave the hassle of cooking dinner to someone else.

In one the iconic scenes from A Christmas Story, the Parker family is forced to have an alternative Christmas dinner after the neighbor’s dogs storm into their kitchen and eat the turkey. I laugh every time I see the family dining at Chop Suey Palace, but the possibility of ruining Christmas dinner is something everyone must face. Just in case something tragic happens in your effort to prepare the ultimate feast, here’s a helpful registry of local eateries that will be open on Christmas day. Glen Burnie Open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., satisfy your pancake craving by stopping by the IHOP in Glen Burnie. Use the trip to try the restaurant's seasonal holiday hotcakes: White Chocolate Mint Chip Pancakes, Pumpkin Praline Pancakes, Eggnog Pancakes …

Find Tapas and Small Bites Nearby

We round up some restaurants nearby Glen Burnie that offer tapas and small plates to share.

This time of year is great for catching up with old friends and family members, out-of-town guests and visitors. Many gatherings naturally center around food. That’s why tapas, or meals made up of several small plates to share, are a perfect plan for reuniting with an old gang. “Tapas” comes from traditional Spanish snacks and appetizers, but many types of restaurants offer their own version of “small plates.” Choosing items to share off a menu is a group activity and discussing and experiencing new tastes can be a gustatory adventure. Patch compiled a list of local restaurants you can go to experience the small plate trend with your own loved ones. Glen Burnie For years Bill Bateman's Bistro in Glen Burnie has found a way to win the …

Maryland is Known for Good Seafood, Right?

Patch rounds up some of our favorite places to eat seafood in the Glen Burnie area.

Patch editors and contributors named their favorite seafood spots. What’s yours? Glen Burnie Best known for its steamed crabs, almost every Glen Burnie resident has stopped through Seaside Restaurant & Crab House at least once. I admit I have to be in a special mood to pick crabs, so when my dad and I frequent this restaurant I usually decide to turn a crab pretzel into a meal while I watch him pick apart his crabs or shrimp. —Maya T. Prabhu, Glen Burnie Patch local editor Pasadena While most may not consider this Italian restaurant when seeking a seafood menu, Bella Napoli has won the Maryland Seafood Festival's Cream of Crab Soup Cook-Off two years in a row. In addition to their award-winning crab soup, the restaurant features appetizers…

Only in Glen Burnie

Mission BBQ Proud to be American

The new Glen Burnie barbecue restaurant has quickly become part of the community.

Opening on Sept. 11, 2011, Mission BBQ in the Harundale Mall shopping center has quickly made itself at home in the Glen Burnie community. As tight-knit as I’ve learned that Glen Burnie can be, I was surprised when Lisa Vogel Penix suggested it as a place that every new resident in town should know. And so was Steve Newton, co-founder of Mission BBQ. “That’s just so humbling,” he said when I mentioned why I was there for dinner last week. “The community’s been incredible. I’m in awe of the support that we’ve gotten.” I’d been to the restaurant once before, but I wasn’t going to ignore the opportunity to check it out again at Lisa’s suggestion. I stopped in Mission BBQ between assignments last Thursday and opted for a NC pulled pork BBQ …

After enjoying the tender and delightful baby back ribs with a side of the delicious cole slaw, I then enjoyed blowing the O ring of my anus all over the seat of the toilet and floor of the ladies bathroom. Thanks Mission BBQ for making my stool bloody and my anus lips chapped from the low grade toilet paper that I call poor man's steel wool. I will never go there again unless I have a bad …   more ›
