President Obama Lays Out State of Union - Read the Live Chat

Just a few miles from the Maryland line, the president emphasizes the economy in the first State of the Union address of his second term.

President Obama delivered his State of the Union address Tuesday night, focusing on the economy and legislative action to end gun violence. Follow what news organizations and blogs reported on the archive of the live feed. Marylanders could claim as their own Anne Arundel County student Jack Andraka who was in the audience as he is the first lady's guest. Andraka, 16, of Crownsville made a huge splash in 2012 with his invention of a sensor that can help more accurately and efficiently detect pancreatic cancer. He is a science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) student at North County High School in Glen Burnie. Have something to say about the president's speech? Tell us in comments.

More voters turned out at early voting centers Friday than on any other day in Anne Arundel County's early voting history. Check back here throughout Tuesday for live election results.  By the time early voting ended on Friday evening, a total of 38,140 voters had cast ballots, according to information with the Maryland State Board of Elections. Ialso triedto vote multiple times at West County library and turned away because of long lines. In some instances there were traffic james extending out to Rt 175. I like Washington State because it has all mail balloting. No expensive polling machines, no worries about weather or power outages, etc. is other states can figure out how to do this securely, cant we? The best part ... Once you have …   more ›

SPEAK OUT: Does the Vice Presidential Debate Rate?

It may not have the draw of the Biden-Palin debate but this year's Veep match may be an important one.

We haven't seen much of Vice President Joe Biden in the national media lately. His GOP challenger, Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, on the other hand, has been giving media interviews routinely. But America knows Biden and has seen him in national debates before. It will be the public's introduction to Ryan in such a high-stakes scenario. The two will face off in front of a nationally televised and live internet audience of tens of millions Thursday in the only vice presidential debate in the 2012 campaign. The debate is 9-10:30 p.m. at Centre College in Kentucky. Both men have the job of fiercely defending their running mates' records as polls show the gap between President Obama and GOP candidate Mitt Romney closing, so national political …

Poll: Will Supreme Court Decision Help Obama's Campaign?

Do you think President Obama's re-election efforts have been helped by court's ruling?

Much of Maryland is split on Thursday's Supreme Court ruling. Some analysts felt President Barack Obama scored a huge win Thursday. Some officials felt Republican challenger Mitt Romney will benefit from conservative momentum following the decision. Either way, Thursday's Supreme Court ruling—one that upheld the individual mandate that requires the purchase of insurance as a tax—thrust health care to the top of the list of campaign topics heading toward November. We want to hear from you. Vote in our poll. Then tell us in the comments if Thursday's ruling has changed or cemented your vote this November.

MD Same-Sex Marriage Proponents Cheer Obama Announcement

In an interview on ABC News, the president says he supports same-sex marriage. The issue is likely to go to referendum in Maryland this fall.

President Barack Obama picked the day after a decisive vote in North Carolina to announce that his "evolution" on the issue of same-sex marriage was complete—he now supports it. In an interview with ABC News on Wednesday, Obama said: I have to tell you that over the course of several years, as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don't Ask Don't Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage—at a …

I don't know about saving the institution...but completely agree about the religious crackpots portion of it, they've done a great job of both devaluing marriage while oppressing others at the same time.   more ›

President Obama confirmed late Sunday night the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

News broke Sunday that Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, had been killed earlier that day and the United States had the al-Qaida leader's body. Osama made direct orders to kill Muslims if they worked with the infidels. That is one example. It happened during his entire time once his organization was built. I'm sure you can google even more.   more ›
