Barney's Big Quest

A Beagle mix searches for his new home.

Barney is an explorer on a special quest—to find a good home. Barney is a Beagle mix who is about 6 years old. He was abandoned by his original owner, and his caretaker could no longer care for him. So Barney now is staying at a foster home, and he’s ready for a permanent dog bed. Spunky—that’s how Barney’s current foster parent describes him. With his inquisitive nature, Barney loves sniffing around and investigating his surroundings, particularly outside. He is especially excited about mealtime. Barney can be wary around strangers, but once you get to know him he warms up and will lap up attention. At his previous home, Barney lived outside. Active, Athletic and Ready to Retrieve your Love

Diesel could pump up the fun in your household.

UPDATED (Aug. 2, 2011): Diesel was adopted July 16 after his foster owner placed an advertisement on craigslist.org. Original Article: Throw Diesel a ball and he will retrieve it and, perhaps, even your affection. Diesel is a 3-1/2-year-old black Labrador Retriever. A foster home took him in when his original owner was going through a divorce. Now, Diesel longs for a permanent place. Some of Diesel’s favorite hobbies are running, swimming and playing fetch. When he returns a ball, he’ll bark playfully for another round. His foster parent says Diesel also is an alert watchdog. But Diesel will gladly relax on the couch, roll over for belly scratches or give big, wet kisses. His tail, which is short because an injury led to its amputation, …

Mo Mo Offers Mo’ Mo’ Love

A furry friend looks for a spot to call his own.

Calm and cool. That’s Mo Mo. Mo Mo is a 7- to 8-year-old Pekingese. Volunteers with Mutts Matter Rescue found him at a shelter with bladder stones and infected teeth. Now, after a veterinarian visit, Mo Mo is said to be healthy and ready to find a home. Rescue volunteers said Mo Mo is a laid-back dog. He doesn’t bark a lot. He loves attention, but doesn’t need much. And you’ll often find Mo Mo relaxing, napping or cuddling next to your feet. Still, he’s always up for a game of tug-of-war or strolling outside if it’s not too hot. But when it comes to being picked up, Mo Mo prefers to initiate the action rather than someone grabbing him. So rescue volunteers believe he may fit best with an individual or family without small children. Mo Mo …

Those Sweet Puppy Eyes

A lovable dog could bring a new energy into your home.

One gaze of those puppy dog eyes could melt your heart. Levi, a 9-month-old gold-colored mixed breed, has had that effect on people he meets. Levi came to the Golden Retriever Rescue, Education and Training, Inc. (GRREAT) after a mix-up at a shelter. Even though he isn’t a Golden Retriever mix, GRREAT volunteers kept him in their care because of his "Golden temperament." Now, Levi is looking for a permanent home. Levi is described as a "happy, silly boy." He has a special puppy energy, but volunteers say he's not overly energetic. Levi loves toys, riding in cars and playing games like tug-of-war. And just give him a treat or scratch his soft, silky fur, and he could be your new best friend. The 50-some-pound pooch will happily cuddle up …
