Several senior athletes at Northeast High School were honored at the school’s senior banquet Tuesday night.
The Northeast High School athletic community celebrated some of the senior athletes' finest accomplishments Tuesday night at its senior banquet. Here is a rundown of the top award winners, Northeast Athletic Director Ken Miller said. Booster members and Miller provided the descriptions of each award. Award: Heaphy Award Winners: Megan Grim and Blake Russell Description: This award is for athletic and scholastic achievement. Ed Heaphy was the founding boosters president. The boosters provide the funds for this scholarship, and the coaches and the athletic director select the winners. The winners receive a $1,000 scholarship. Led by Nick Altmann’s six-goal performance, Chesapeake defeated Northeast 16-3 Friday night.
In a dominating performance, the Chesapeake Cougars easily handled the Northeast Eagles 16-3 Friday night in an offensive explosion that featured six goals from junior Nick Altmann. Less than three minutes into the start of Friday night’s game, Altmann worked his way to the goal and put one in the net to give his team a one-goal lead. Altmann recorded three goals and one assist just in the first half. “It felt good,” said Altmann on his performance. “We were pumped up and we moved fast and just moved the ball quick.” In the game's opening minutes, it looked as though Northeast was going to hang with the Cougars. Led by senior Abby Mack, Chesapeake defeated Northeast 18-13 Friday on senior night.
The Chesapeake High School girls lacrosse team scored 18 goals Friday night in a 18-13 victory over crosstown rival Northeast. Cougar senior Abby Mack either scored or assisted on 11 on the 18 total goals. Less than six minutes into the senior night contest, the Chesapeake Cougars (6-7) found themselves down, 2-0. They quickly rallied scoring two goals in less than a minute to even the score, then Mack struck. Ten minutes into the game, Mack fired a shot that found its way to the back of the net and put her team up, 3-2. Patch stopped by the Northeast girls varsity lacrosse practice and spoke with midfield captain Courtney Woolford, 17, about her lacrosse career and her plans for the future. Her coach, Julia Lebowtz, said Woolford is definitely a Division I prospect. Pasadena Patch: You’ve been on the varsity lacrosse team for three years. What is one of your favorite memories? Courtney Woolford: One of the games in a tournament this year, we played a really physical and quick team. It was an intense game and tied 3-3 at halftime. Senior Julianna Hall also plays lacrosse for the Eagles.
Northeast High School’s Julianna Hall will be taking her field hockey skills to the next level. The senior has committed to play at Division II Limestone College, located in South Carolina. Hall, 18, spent three years on the varsity field hockey team at Northeast and said she had a few colleges to pick from, but knew Limestone was the one. “I just liked the campus a lot and the coach was really nice and the class sizes were good,” Hall said. “I had a couple colleges to pick from and it was a little stressful, but as soon as I went on [Limestone’s] campus I knew that was the place I wanted to go."
