Maryland Live! officials announced Wednesday that the casino will have live table games in place by early spring, and will be hiring more than 800 dealers to shuffle cards and collect the dice. Once the state of Maryland approves the relevant regulations, the new casino plans to move quickly in adding at least 150 live table games, potentially bringing a younger and wealthier crowd. It will also eventually move to 24-hour operations. Overall, Maryland Live! plans to hire as many as 1,200 workers, including dealers and various ancillary positions. The casino plans to open a free "dealer school" to train and identify dealer candidates in conjunction with Anne Arundel Community College. Those who pass through the 12-week program will be …

"Concerns are everywhere," said Del. Frank Turner, chairman of the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Gaming Law and Regulation.
A bill authorizing gambling expansion in Maryland will likely be amended, according to the chairman of the House subcommittee that is holding hearings on the legislation. Del. Frank Turner, a Howard County Democrat, initially characterized possible changes to the bill passed Friday by the Senate as minor. "Mostly it's a lot of tweaks," said Turner, the chairman of the House Ways and Means subcommittee on Gaming Law and Regulation. When asked what concerns his committee might have, Turner suggested the changes might be more substantive. "I think there are concerns everywhere," Turner said. "There are all kinds of concerns and ideas. Some will be germane and others won't. I think we're going to make it a better work product than what the …

Gov. Martin O’Malley on Tuesday said he would introduce a bill that would allow for expanded gambling in the state. The General Assembly will review the bill as part of a special session expected to convene Friday. The bill includes provisions allowing for a new casino in Prince George’s County, but also addresses the impact on the existing casinos in the state, including the Maryland Live! casino at Arundel Mills. Under the legislation, a new casino in Prince George’s County could open by July of 2016, or within 30 months of when the facility in Baltimore City opens. Live table games could also be added to casinos in the state. Voters would ultimately decide on whether to allow for expanded gambling when they head to the polls in November…

The casino in Anne Arundel County received approval this week for more than 500 new machines that include electronic table games.
The Maryland Live! casino, which opened in June with more than 3,000 slot machines and electronic table games, continued to expand its offerings this week. The Maryland Lottery announced Thursday that it tested and approved 531 additional slot machines and electronic table games at the casino located at Arundel Mills in Hanover. Patch previously reported that more than 1,500 machines would be added by the fall. The new machines will be ready for the public to use Thursday night, along with a second bar overlooking the Rams Head Center Stage, according to a press release from the Maryland Lottery. The slot machine selection reportedly includes licensed products such as "Wheel of Fortune," "Wizard of Oz" and "Monopoly;" electronic table …

The new gaming and entertainment facility held its grand opening Wednesday night in Hanover, but not everyone is excited about the new venue.
Thousands descended upon the new Maryland Live! casino at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover Wednesday night to celebrate the grand opening of the new gaming and entertainment facility. Several parts of the complex are still incomplete, but Wednesday's opening still made for a big night for developer David Cordish. I honestly toyed with the idea of going past the casino last night, but thought better of it. I wonder what the casino will do to traffic. And I was interested to see how residents in the Glen Burnie area felt about the Maryland Live! casino. "Stayed far, far away from that area!!!" wrote Robin Wingfield Lyons on Glen Burnie Patch's Facebook page. Brent Anderson attempted to check it out, but also said he decided against it. "Went, …
