There are 308,000 Maryland residents without power and there have been two storm-related deaths.
Editor's note: A death that the state originally attributed to Hurricane Sandy has been retracted and was not hurricane-related. Hurricane Sandy claimed the lives of two Maryland residents and 308,000 were still without power as of 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. A large tree fell on the home of a Pasadena man and killed him Monday night. The first storm-related death was in an automobile accident Monday morning in Montgomery County. State officials originally connected a third death in Prince George's County with the storm, but county officials are no longer linking the death to the storm. Compilation of columns serves as community association fundraiser.
Raynor Heights in Linthicum was once a thriving neighborhood, complete with its own improvement association, a carnival, two groceries and a tavern. All of this was lost, though, after the Baltimore Beltway and the Baltimore Washington Parkway divided the community. But, thanks to the newest volume of Linthicum Vignettes, the memories will endure. Skip Booth, a member of the Linthicum-Shipley Improvement Association’s (LSIA) board of directors and vice president of the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society, wrote about Raynor Heights and more than a dozen other topics in Linthicum’s past, as he has for about a decade. Police said a Baltimore man ran from them and attempted to discard a handgun that was in his waistband when officers approached him outside a Linthicum motel. Deandre R. Hill, 31, of the 2900 block of Lakebrook Circle in Baltimore was charged with several handgun violations and related charges. According to a police press release, officers were conducting surveillance of possible drug and prostitution activity at the Motel 6 in the 5100 block of Raynor Avenue in Linthicum at about 12:10 a.m. on Saturday. Detectives saw people participating in what they described as suspicious activity in the parking lot. When they approached the people, police said Hill ran and detectives chased him. A Airman with the U.S. National Guard died from injuries he suffered after falling from the seventh-floor balcony of a Linthicum hotel room early Wednesday morning, police said. He had just returned to the United States after an overseas deployment. Police are withholding details about the airman—including his name, home state and National Guard affiliation—until his family, who live out of state, can be notified. Brooklyn Park: Burn incident A 46-year-old man suffered burns to his face Wednesday night in Brooklyn Park, but they were not caused by fireworks, fire officials said. According to fire spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser, firefighters and medics responded to the 5700 block of Franklin Street at about 10:20 p.m. for a reported burned patient. Investigators determined that the man possessed black powder, which came in contact with a spark or flame, Kooser said. He suffered second-degree burns and was transported by ambulance to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The General Federation of Women's Clubs Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights hosts the 32nd annual Summer Concerts in the Park.
The General Federation of Women's Clubs Woman's Club of Linthicum Heights 32nd annual summer concert series got under way last Sunday with a performance from Pet Rock. The concerts will be held at 6 p.m. every Sunday in Linthicum Park on Benton Avenue. Here is the list of bands: The series is arraigned by the Performing Arts Committee and is supported by a grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County. Michael Joseph Wagner, 46, of the 100 block of Louisa Court, was charged with second-degree burglary, fourth-degree burglary, possession of burglar's tools, destruction of property over $500 and destruction of property under $500. On Tuesday, Anne Arundel County police arrested a California woman who is accused of using Linthicum-area hotels to house prostitutes. Shkoyia Michelle Lomack, 19, of Sacramento, CA, was charged with human trafficking compensation, prostitution business and prostitution and other charges. According to a police press release, officers conducted an investigation at about 7 p.m. Tuesday into an anonymous tip about a prostitution ring in Linthicum. Detectives learned that an Internet advertisement was being used as a front for a prostitution business being operated out of a hotel room in the area, police said. Glen Burnie: Robbery Two men allegedly robbed a 19-year-old man Thursday afternoon in Marley Station Mall. The victim said he knew one of the suspects and police said they believe he was targeted. Anne Arundel County police responded to the mall in the 7900 block of Ritchie Highway at about 3 p.m. Thursday for a reported robbery, according to a police press release. Officers spoke with the victim who said he met up with an acquaintance and another man that he did not know at the mall, according to the release. Anne Arundel County fire investigators are looking into the cause of a Linthicum vehicle and garage fire that occurred Tuesday morning. Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire at 11 Lake Front Dr. in Linthicum Heights shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday and found both a vehicle and detached garage on fire, according to fire spokesman Capt. James Rostek. It took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze. "It was placed under control quickly," Rostek said. The vehicle suffered heavy damage, and there was some damage to the garage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Rostek said.
