BWI Shuttle Collision Delays Light Rail

The crash left two people injured, according to emergency officials.

CORRECTION: This story was updated to reflect that the shuttle did not flip or overturn in any way. A BWI shuttle bus collided with a pole early Sunday, causing a section of the light rail to lose power and leaving two people injured, according to Anne Arundel County emergency officials. The incident took place near BWI Airport at Route 170 and Terminal Road in Linthicum. The Maryland Transit Authority website is not reporting any further delays, but several reports said delays of the light rail went into Monday morning. Emergency crews transported the driver of the shuttle and a passenger to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to fire department spokesman Keith Swindle. Bikeways Grant Awarded to Extend BWI Trail

The state awarded a $300,000 grant for the design of an extension of the BWI Trail to the Nursery Road Light Rail station.

As part of a new Maryland Bikeways Program, Gov. Martin O'Malley announced Tuesday that $300,000 in grant money will go to design the extension of the BWI Trail to the Nursery Road Light Rail station in Pumphrey. The money will be used to design the 1.4-mile extension of the BWI Trail to the north, according to a press release from O'Malley's office. “These grants are a great way to help local jurisdictions make key connections to build a more comprehensive bike network that will benefit our citizens,” O’Malley said in a press release. “By getting out and taking a bike ride, we can learn to enjoy more of Maryland’s natural treasures, help reduce the impact on the land, improve our fitness and well-being and enhance our quality of life.” …

actually it would be for cardio of just because you like riding and the station ids not the only destination allong the trail this would be better if you could ride it after dark because it is safer than the streets.   more ›
