Over the past week, at least three Glen Burnie seniors have signed letters of intent to play college sports.
Three Glen Burnie area high school students will be heading to play college sports next year—two from North County and one from Glen Burnie. On Nov. 9, Melanie Slowinski, 17, of Severn signed a letter of intent to play softball at Rutgers University. The Glen Burnie High School senior finally made it official after a knowing for a year that she wanted to attend the New Jersey School, according to The Capital. On Friday, Nov. 11, Cliff Cornish, 16, of Glen Burnie signed a letter of intent to play basketball at High Point University, surrounded by friends and family at North County High School. Beginning with lacrosse this Monday, the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) unveiled its playoff brackets for the 2011 season. Complete brackets can be viewed at MPSSAA.org. Also, note that in all sports, seeds one through four were awarded based on win-loss record, while the five through 12 seeds are slotted at random. Coach Tom Taylor's North County (4-2, 3-2 league) faces a formible challenge in the Game of the Week, as they take on nationally-ranked and visiting Severna Park. After a fast start to the season, the high-powered Eagles (8-2, 7-0 league) are looking to rebound from two close losses in the AACC Girls High School Lacrosse Tournament last week. Severna Park is coached by Carin Perterson and led on the field by Ally Adams, Elizabeth Barranco, Madison Thomas and Morgan Troggler.

The visiting Eagles scored early and often in an easy win Friday night.
Sophomore Jake Hesse and senior Brendan Lee both scored three times for Northeast as the Eagles rolled over homestanding Glen Burnie 12-3 Friday night at a frigid and wet Pop Whayland Stadium. After the Eagles' Brian Fletcher opened the scoring with 4:44 remaining in the first quarter, Gophers' goalie Chris Ford was victimized when he was forced to come out of the crease to retrieve an errant pass, only to see the ball trickle into the net after it was knocked away from him with 1:40 left in the opening frame. The backbreaker, however, came from Northeast's Hesse, who scored with just 5 seconds remaining in the quarter to put the Eagles ahead 3-0.
