Glen Burnie Softball Beats Roosevelt, Heads to Final

The Glen Burnie softball team will face Sherwood High School in the State Finals on Saturday, at the University of Maryland.

The Glen Burnie High School softball team beat Eleanor Roosevelt High School, from Greenbelt, in the state semi-finals Tuesday, according to the MPSSAA website. Glen Burnie was a fourth seed in the east bracket, and beat Roosevelt–the first seeded team in the south bracket–by a score of 13-1. This was the fourth victory for the gophers in this year's tournament. The gophers will face Sherwood High School in the State Finals at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, at the University of Maryland College Park.

Woodson Brings Turnaround Experience to Glen Burnie Football

Eric Woodson is coaching the Glen Burnie High School football team, after turning Northwestern into a winning program.

Eric Woodson was named the new football coach for Glen Burnie High School last month, and he will be working to turn around his second football program, reports The Capital-Gazette. Woodson spent the past eight years transforming the program at Northwest High School in Baltimore City from a 2-7 record in 2004 to a playoff team by his fourth year, according to the report. It has been more than a decade since Glen Burnie has earned a winning record, and Woodson is taking over a team that managed three wins last year. Report: Officer Installed Bathroom Camera to Stop Students Smoking

The officer said the bathroom was known as a location where smoking took place, according to reports.

An investigative report reveals that the Anne Arundel County police officer who installed a camera in a bathroom at Glen Burnie High School was attempting to stop students from smoking, according to The Capital. The police department immediately relieved the officer, Allen Marcus, of his duties to investigate when the camera was discovered on March 20, and he has since been reassigned to non-school duties. Marcus told investigators that he had installed the camera earlier in the day it was discovered, in a bathroom where he claimed students smoke marijuana and cigarettes, reports The Capital. Totally believe this. When I attended school there the bathrooms were used to smoke so heavily that there would be a cloud coming out at lunch. The teachers on duty would just stand outside and ignore it. You couldn't walk in without choking on the thick smoke and then smelling like it afterward. Prom Costs on Rise: How Much are You Spending?

Glen Burnie High School’s prom is scheduled for May 4, and North County's prom is scheduled for May 25.

A lot goes into having the perfect prom. There’s the dress, with nails, hair and shoes. Plus there is the limo, dinner beforehand, the actual prom ticket and any after-prom activities. All of these activities are adding up and causing the average cost of prom to skyrocket. According to a recent report published on Huffington Post, the average prom cost in 2013 is $1,139, which is a 5 percent increase from last year. Prom for Glen Burnie High School is scheduled for May 4 at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, while the big dance for North County High School is May 25 at the BWI Marriott. Police: Glen Burnie Bathroom Camera Not Capable of Recording

Police announced no criminal charges will be brought against the school resource officer suspended after a camera was found in a bathroom at Glen Burnie High School.

The school resource officer who was suspended after authorities discovered a camera installed inside a bathroom at Glen Burnie High School will not face criminal charges, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. School officials found the camera in a boys bathroom on March 20 after being notified by a student, and the police announced the school resource officer had installed the device "on his own volition." Days after the camera was found, police also seized several computers associated with the officer, but found no images. The police department said the investigation revealed the camera had no capability to record. Glen Burnie Teen Named 'Youth of the Year'

Desmond Beggerly, a sophomore at Glen Burnie High School, was recognized by the Boys & Girls Club branches of Anne Arundel County.

Glen Burnie High School sophomore Desmond Beggerly was named 2013 Youth of the Year as six high school students around Anne Arundel County were recognized in the annual award ceremony Thursday. Each branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs in Annapolis and Anne Arundel County sent a nominee. Beggerly will go on to the state award ceremony, with a chance to win a scholarship and advance to a regional ceremony, reports The Maryland Gazette. The Glen Burnie High School drum line has payed tribute to the long-running British science fiction show Dr. Who at recent music competitions. On April 6, the group competed at Arundel and Meade High Schools, according to the school's music website. The group's next competition is scheduled for April 20 at Ridley High School in Folsom, PA.
