Pumphrey: Drug arrests Anne Arundel County police arrested a Glen Burnie man and a Halethorpe man Saturday after discovering substances suspected of being cocaine and marijuana during a traffic stop in Pumphrey, police said. Paul Douglas St. John, 24, of the 1100 block of Nottingham Drive in Glen Burnie, and Tracy Robert Young III, 42, of the 3800 block of Annapolis Road in Halethorpe, were both charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute. Curtis Napoleon Torbit, 61, of the 2800 block of Ruscombe Lane in Baltimore, was charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute, possession of drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and several gun violations, according to a police press release. A Lanham man was sentenced five years in connection with a March 2011 shooting in the Marley Station mall parking lot and a judge sentenced a Glen Burnie man to 17 years in prison for trafficking PCP and cocaine.
Judges handed down sentences in two separate Glen Burnie cases last week. In the first case, Christopher Royal Gayle, 23, of the 9000 block of 4th Street in Lanham was sentenced Tuesday to 30 years in prison with the judge suspending all but five, according to The Capital. Gayle entered an Alford plea to attempted second-degree murder and use of a handgun in a felony in connection with the March 2011 shooting during a botched drug deal in the Marley Station mall parking lot, according to online court records. An Alford plea means he maintains his innocence while admitting that the prosecution has enough evidence to convict and carries the consequences of a guilty plea.
