Severna Park HIgh grad Josh Banks, who has Major League experience with Toronto, San Diego and Houston and finished this season with the Long Island Ducks, has trained at the B.A.T.T. Academy of Glen Burnie.
When Josh Banks was a teenager he began working out at the B.A.T.T. Academy, a baseball facility on Penrod Court in Glen Burnie. And about 15 years later he still works out at B.A.T.T., even though his baseball travels have taken him to Florida for college, with three teams at the Major League level and a stint this past season in the independent Atlantic League with the Long Island Ducks. “That is where I can go to throw,” Banks, 29, a 2000 graduate of Severna Park High School, said of B.A.T.T. “I have been going there since I was about 15 years old. That is the place where I can throw.” After graduating from Severna Park, the right-handed pitcher played in college at Division I Florida International near Miami. He was drafted by Toronto …

Former Glen Burnie resident and Mount Saint Joseph's graduate is promoted to the Chicago Cubs and joins former prep teammate Gavin Floyd of Severna Park in The Show.
They were teammates on the baseball team at Mount Saint Joseph's High School. And now Steve Clevenger, a former resident of Glen Burnie, and Gavin Floyd are in the Major Leagues. And both are with teams in Chicago. While Floyd, who grew up in Severna Park, is a regular starting pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, Clevenger joined the Chicago Cubs on Monday as a backup catcher after spending this season in the minor leagues with the Class AA Tennessee Smokies and the Class AAA Iowa Cubs. Floyd (12-12 this season) has been in The Show since 2004, when he made his big league debut with Philadelphia. Clevenger is still waiting for his first appearance in the big leagues after not playing for Chicago in its day game on Wednesday. "It is a good …

Teen softball and baseball players visit BASES in Curtis Bay as part of a State Department program.
One at a time, the softball players stepped up to the plate, got into their stance and swung at a ball on a tee. After each one, Coach Alan Haddaway stepped forward and offered some advice. “She’s transferring her weight and losing her balance,” he told Camilla Nieh, an interpreter with the U.S. State Department, and asked her to translate to Mayu Masukura, 17. After showing Mayu the correct way to form a stance and watching her swing again, he told her, “Good. That was nice.” Mayu was one of 16 Japanese teen softball and baseball players to visit the Baseball and Softball Essential Skills (BASES) Training Facility in Curtis Bay Tuesday as part of the SportsUnited program run by the U.S. State Department. The teens—eight boys and eight …
