The Anne Arundel Community College softball team joined their new coach, Renee Ferguson for a day of community service and teambuilding on Feb. 16, when they volunteered for Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake. Ferguson said she saw this as an opportunity for her new team to get to know one another off the field. "Habitat for Humanity’s volunteer program is a great way for teams of all kinds to come together and see what they can accomplish by working together," Ferguson said. AACC Student Featured on Today Show
The student talked about her desire to expand her home-based party catering business into a brick-and-mortar store.
Darlene Proctor, a student at Anne Arundel Community College, recently took the national spotlight on NBC's morning show, The Today Show. Proctor, of Windsor Mill, talked on the show about classes she's taken at the community college's Hotel, Culinary Arts and Travel (HCAT) institute, a rapidly expanding section of the college's course portfolio. On the show's Monday morning program, Proctor said she wants to learn how to expand her home-based party catering business into a brick-and-mortar store. Governor to Visit AACC Thursday for Student Roundtable
O'Malley is scheduled to talk with students about their experiences at community college.
Gov. Martin O'Malley will discuss his legislative plans for education with Anne Arundel Community College students and school leaders at a roundtable session on Thursday in Arnold. The talk will focus on a group of active students, who will share their experiences, challenges and accomplishments at the community college, according to a release. Spring Class Registration Still Open at AACC
It’s not too late to register for spring classes at Anne Arundel Community College.
The first session of spring classes at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) begins on Jan. 23, but there is still time to register. New classes are being offered this term at all instruction locations, including the new Center for Cyber and Professional Training. This session also brings a return to class offerings at North County High School and Meade High School, according to an announcement from AACC. The community college also offers options for those seeking flexibility for their work schedule. The WeekendYou program hosts classes Fridays through Sundays, offering courses in five degree and certificate programs. Students in the courses attend both online and in-person classes. BASKETBALL: AACC Bounces Back With Win Over Frederick

The men’s basketball team at Anne Arundel Community College bounced back into the win column with a 79-71 win over a tough Frederick Community College program. The win brings AACC’s record to 11-5 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Riding a four game losing streak, the Pioneers traveled to Frederick for their first of nine consecutive MD JUCO conference contests that will conclude their regular season schedule. Local Man Wins Scholarship for Bay Cleanup Plan
A Glen Burnie man earned a scholarship to further his education in environmental science.
A Glen Burnie man won the $5,000 CanU scholarship from Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company and Anne Arundel Community College Foundation for his plan to reduce the environmental impact of stormwater runoff that flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Robert Prettyman, 51, of Glen Burnie, will be able to put the money toward furthering his studies of ecosystem restoration and environmental monitoring at Anne Arundel Community College. Prettyman completed his undergraduate education at Virginia Tech in 1984 and spent decades in the workforce before returning to school. Job, College Fair for Students with Disabilities Hosted by AACC
The event is a partnership between Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Anne Arundel Community College
Anne Arundel County Public Schools is joining with other agencies and Anne Arundel Community College to host a college information night for students with disabilities and their parents on Wednesday. The college fair event is specifically designed for high school students considering enrolling at AACC or entering the competitive job market. Presenters will include representatives of AACC’s Disability Support Services, the Division of Rehabilitation Services, and the One-Stop Career Center. AACC Students Can Apply for Fall's FAFSA Now
Applications should be completed between Jan. 1 and Mar. 1, according to the school's Financial Aid Office.
Students for the 2013-2014 school year should apply now for federal student aid, according to the financial aid office at Anne Arundel Community College. A notice sent to all students for the next school year informs them that Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) applications should be completed between Jan. 1 and Mar. 1. "Making this deadline can significantly increase your financial aid awards. If you miss this deadline, you can still apply for Federal grants and loans, but you will not be considered for state aid from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC)," according to the release.
