Police Use Taser on Burglary Suspect Inside Linthicum Home

Police say a man walked on the roof and entered a Linthicum home Wednesday afternoon.

Anne Arundel County police deployed a Taser while subduing a burglary suspect Wednesday afternoon in Linthicum. Police say they found Timothy Ray Veasey, 48, of Baltimore, inside a Linthicum home after a resident reported a burglary-in-progress. Officers used the taser when the suspect allegedly violently resisted arrest. Shortly after 2 p.m., police responded to a residence on the 6500 block of Englewood Road for the reported burglary, and a woman told police she heard someone enter her home from the roof. The woman fled the house and called police from her neighbor's house. The woman said no other residents were inside the home, so police created a perimeter and entered the home. Police eventually saw Veasey open a lower floor basement …

Police Find Cocaine on Glen Burnie Burglary Suspect

Police arrested a Glen Burnie man after a resident reported a burglary-in-progress Wednesday.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a Glen Burnie man after finding him in a reported burglary-in-progress, and seized cocaine that was in his possession. Mark Dale McCartney, 44, was arrested and charged him with first- and third-degree burglary, rogue and vagabond, and drug possession. Shortly before 11 a.m., officers responded to the reported burglary on the 7100 block of Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard, and found a man walking outside the residence. According to police, the man allegedly entered the victim's vehicle to take items, and was confronted by the homeowners when he entered the residence. The victims did not know the alleged intruder. Police Seize $7,000 in Cocaine From Pair in Glen Burnie

A traffic stop led to the seizure of cocaine at a Glen Burnie hotel Monday night.

Anne Arundel County police arrested a man and woman from Pasadena in a traffic stop that ultimately led officers to find $7,000 in cocaine at a hotel in Glen Burnie on Monday night. Between April and May, detectives received a tip that two people were distributing cocaine between Glen Burnie and Pasadena. At approximately 7 p.m. on Monday, police conducted a traffic stop of the two suspects described in the tip, on Route 10 near Furnace Branch Road. Police arrested both occupants, and obtained a warrant to search a room in a Glen Burnie hotel. Officers seized approximately 70 grams of cocaine inside the hotel room, valued at $7,000 along with $800 in cash. First Statewide Gun Turn-in Nets 250 Firearms

Anne Arundel County police collected 27 guns at the Glen Burnie district.

  Marylanders by the dozens turned over unwanted firearms to police in the first statewide "Gun Turn-In Day," sponsored by Attorney General Doug Gansler. A total of 250 firearms were turned in, the attorney general's office announced Tuesday. The guns turned in are now unavailable to those who would misuse them, according to David Paulson, communications director. "If one life is saved or one serious injury is prevented in Maryland, this effort is entirely worth it," he added, citing what he said law enforcement officials had expressed to the attorney general's office. That's really weird, I heard the amount was much less. A lot of people would have stolen some guns to turn in, if they had offered money or gift cards. Isn't Doug Gansler going to run for governor? It's amusing to see what some people will do to stay on the state payroll. I wonder how much this "campaign" cost the taxpayer.   more ›

Glen Burnie Fire Displaces 4 on Sunday

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation during the Sunday blaze.

An early afternoon house fire in Glen Burnie displaced four people, including two children, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Emergency crews treated two men, 50 and 18, for smoke inhalation and transported them to Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries. At 2:45 p.m., firefighters responded to the 900 block of Langley Road, and found flames and smoke emerging from a two-story home. It took 44 firefighters approximately 45 minutes to bring the fire under control. The two children displaced by the fire did not require Red Cross assistance, according to a fire department news release. Several pets died in the fire, and the department estimates damages at $150,000. Investigators have not determined the cause of the…

Police Investigating Shooting on Elvaton Road

The 21-year-old man who was shot is in stable condition.

A 21-year-old man is in stable condition after a fight led to a shooting on Elvaton Road late Friday afternoon, Anne Arundel County police said. Police responded to the 7900 block of Elvaton Road at 4:45 p.m. Friday and found a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the lower body, according to a new release. The victim was treated on the scene and transported to the University of Maryland Hospital Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The victim said he was shot while walking in the road, the release said. Police said they later learned the man had been in a car with people he knew when he got into a fight. As the victim was getting out of the car on Elvaton Road, he was shot and fell to the ground, the release said. …
