From the AACPS Communications Office:

The Board of Education of Anne Arundel County will vote on appointments to fill vacancies on the Countywide Citizen Advisory Committee and discuss architectural contracts to design kindergarten additions at three schools at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, July 9.

The meeting will be held in the Board Room at the Parham Building, located at 2644 Riva Road in Annapolis.

The Board will consider appointments to fill 10 vacancies on the CAC brought about by the expiration of terms of service and resignations. The 29-member CAC advises the Board on issues affecting the school system.

The Board will also discuss and vote on contracts to design four-classroom additions at Eastport Elementary School and the West Meade Early Education Center, and a six-classroom addition at Georgetown East Elementary School.

At the meeting, the Board will review plans for proposed cell phone tower on the property that houses Magothy and Severn River middle schools, and elect officers for the 2014-2015 school year. The meeting will be the first for Student Member of the Board Ayesha Chaudhry and Superintendent George Arlotto. Both started in their current positions on July 1, 2014.

The Board will meet at 8:30 a.m. to vote to go into closed session, during which time it will discuss confidential matters as permitted by the Maryland Open Meetings Act including, but not limited to, legal advice, personnel, and negotiations. Closed session is not open to the public. The general session of the meeting, which is open to the public, starts at 10 a.m.

A complete agenda for the meeting accompanies this news release. More information on agenda items can be found on the AACPS Web site, www.aacps.org, in the Board Docs section under the Board of Education tab.

The general session of Wednesday’s Board meeting will be broadcast live on AACPS-TV, which can be found on Channel 96 on Comcast and Broadstripe, and Channel 36 on Verizon. Rebroadcasts are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. the day after the meeting and 2:00 p.m. on subsequent Sundays.
