Glen Burnie Residents React to News of bin Laden's Death

President Obama confirmed late Sunday night the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

News broke Sunday that Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks, had been killed earlier that day and the United States had the al-Qaida leader's body.

"I can report to the American people and the world that the United States has conducted an operation that has killed Osama bin Laden," President Obama said in an address to the nation late Sunday night.

As with most major news events in this day and age, people took to their social media networks such as Facebook and Twitter with their reactions.

Here is what some Glen Burnie Patch readers are saying.

Kathleen Meyler-Stevens (via Facebook)
"I am elated....I am very proud of the US right now, finally after ten years Bin Laden is dead......"

Candy McCann Fontz (via Facebook)
Proud to be an American and grateful that I was awake to see the announcement!

And a lot of people other faiths - Christians, included - and non-believers (e.g. atheists) want to do us harm too. Also, a lot of Muslims died Sept. 11. Most are peace-loving people. Presidents Obama and Bush both said the war on terror is not a war on Islam. I respectfully ask Maya to take such down such defamatory comments because they violate Patch's policy.

William Henry said nothing wrong. I think Jennifer is over-reacting. I would like Jennifer to provide in detail proof that people of other faiths are trying to harm Americans. Jennifer can you please explain to the audience why Muslim women are treated as second class citizens in most Muslim countries ?

Where are the comments from William Henry or those referring to Muslims? I'm on vacation in TN and a little removed but I can't see anything that would be offensive. Were the posts removed as Jennifer requested?
Joseph Smith May 02, 2011 at 11:25 PM
Hi Candy. Maya, the author of the article, deleted the comments from William Henry. I don't think William said anything defamatory. I am still waiting for Jennifer Donatelli to answer my questions above.
Maya T. Prabhu May 03, 2011 at 02:05 AM
Actually Candy, as I stated to Joseph and Mr. Henry in an e-mail, I did not remove the comments (though I was going to because they violated terms). As I stated in the e-mail to Joseph and Mr. Henry, the way the system is set up is that if two people flag the comment as inappropriate it is automatically deleted, which is what happened with Mr. Henry's comment. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification, Maya. Thought I was stuck in some type of Tennessee time warp and lost the rest of the article!

I'm pissed they didn't keep his body out for an independent examination. They claim "Muslim Religion" I'm sorry, in this case he's going to hell it doesn't matter what his religion is. He kills thousands upon thousands of people and doesn't deserve a damn thing. Now we just need to believe that this guy was really killed. Proof is now in the hands of government provided photographs and we are left to trust the government. I don't trust the government, after all, this is the same intelligence agency that told us about WMDs in Iraq.

Jennifer Donatelli said that alot of Muslims died on Sept. 11. Do a google search. You will find that only 1% of the 3000 killed were Muslim. 1% to me is not alot. I wish some of these Patch reporters would look up facts first before they blog.
Phillip May 04, 2011 at 01:04 AM
Joe, you are correct about the numbers of Muslims that died on 9/11/2001. Sounds like the details are about deaths ordered by Osama to areas of the world that are dominated by Muslims throughout Osama's life or to organizations he funded that killed Muslims.
Joseph Smith May 04, 2011 at 01:20 AM
Philip , what are you talking about ? what details ? jennifer donatelli specifically wrote about muslims killed on 9/11 By the way, what organizations did Osama fund that killed Muslims ? Osama's priority was to kill Jews and Americans, not Muslims
Phillip May 04, 2011 at 02:28 AM
Osama made direct orders to kill Muslims if they worked with the infidels. That is one example. It happened during his entire time once his organization was built. I'm sure you can google even more.
