County, MDA To Expand Mosquito Control Services

An announcement Wednesday from the Maryland Department of Agriculture says the Harundale-Marley area will be sprayed Sept. 11 and 18.

As of Wednesday, the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's website said that five human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in the Baltimore metropolitan area in 2012.

Of those five cases, it's not clear how many were in Anne Arundel County but Patch previously reported there was .

The first was recently reported in the state. Dori Henry, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, told Patch on Aug. 30 that the age, gender and county where the victim lived are not being released because of privacy reasons.

According to the Anne Arundel County Department of Health's website:

  • Five human cases of West Nile virus were reported in Anne Arundel County in 2011
  • Three cases were reported in 2010
  • No confirmed cases in 2009 and 2008
  • Two confirmed cases were reported in 2007

The following announcement was released Wednesday afternoon by the Maryland Department of Agriculture regarding mosquito spraying in the area of Harundale and Marley, in the vicinity of Ritchie Highway between Maryland Route 100 and Roesler Avenue:

The Maryland Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with Anne Arundel County government, will expand mosquito control services in Anne Arundel County due to evidence of evidence of West Nile virus in the area. The communities to be sprayed are in the Harundel- Marley area, in the vicinity of Richie Highway between MD Route 100 and Roesler Avenue. Spraying will occur on Tuesdays, Sept. 11 and Sept. 18, weather permitting. Spraying will begin at or after 7:30 p.m. People should avoid outdoors activities on spray nights.
