Much of Maryland—including Anne Arundel County—is under a winter weather advisory early Monday morning.
The advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m. in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince George's and St. Mary's counties, the National Weather Service (NWS) announced Sunday.
Many local students already have off on Monday and Tuesday because a semester break was previously scheduled for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Temperatures are expected to be around 30 degrees, but morning commuters may encounter freezing rain mixed with sleet and possibly snow, according to NWS.
Only a trace of accumulation is expected and winds from the south will gust to 10 mph, the advisory stated.
The precipitation "will cause travel difficulties," according to NWS. Drivers should use caution and "be prepared for slippery roads and limited" visibility, the forecast stated.
Sidewalks and bridges are particularly susceptible to icy conditions.
