Anne Arundel County police arrested a Severn man Tuesday after officers witnessed an attempted robbery at a convenience store in Linthicum.

Shortly before 11 p.m., officers saw a disturbance at the Royal Farms on the 400 block of South Camp Meade Rd. The detectives saw a struggle between a man and one of the store's employees, according to police.

Before the officers could approach the man, he ran out of the store and entered a gold Buick. Police followed the vehicle and made a call reporting a robbery.

The officers stopped the vehicle on Williams Rd. in Ferndale and detained the driver, until he was positively identified by the store employee.

Police arrested Sherman Jerome Artis, 50, of Severn, and charged him with one count of robbery, one count of theft and one count of second-degree assault.

Police did not release a mugshot as the investigation is ongoing.
