Accident Leaves Man Riding Scooter Criticially Injured

Police said the driver of the box truck failed to yield when making a left turn, but the scooter did not have its headlamps on.

A Baltimore man riding a motor scooter was hit by a GMC box truck in Glen Burnie Tuesday night, leaving the man critically injured.

According to a police, Gordon David Everett, 44, of Baltimore, was riding a Taotao 50CC motor scooter heading west on East Ordnance Road in the "fast lane" just west of Blades Lane. A GMC box truck, driven by Rita McMillan, was heading east on East Ordnance Road and making a left turn onto the service entrance for Home Depot.

Police say the motor scooter hit the right front fender of the box truck. Everett was critically injured and taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Police said McMillan was not injured.

Police say McMillan failed to yield the right of way to the motor scooter when she was making the left turn. The scooter also may have contributed to the crash by not having the headlamps on and traveling in the incorrect lane.

The Traffic Safety Section is investigating the crash.
