Brooklyn Park: Burn incident

A 46-year-old man suffered burns to his face Wednesday night in Brooklyn Park, but they were not caused by fireworks, fire officials said.

According to fire spokesman Lt. Cliff Kooser, firefighters and medics responded to the 5700 block of Franklin Street at about 10:20 p.m. for a reported burned patient.

Investigators determined that the man possessed black powder, which came in contact with a spark or flame, Kooser said. He suffered second-degree burns and was transported by ambulance to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.

While investigators determined that the incident did not involve fireworks, Kooser said the case remains under investigation.
