Bowie Teen Attacked and Robbed for Phone and Two Dollars

The victim was beaten and robbed in the 'S' section.

A Bowie teenager told police he was beaten and robbed by a group of males wearing hockey masks while walking to a friend’s house in the Somerset section last week.

The 18-year-old victim was walking on Stonehaven Lane just before midnight on April 19 when six other men attacked him, according to a Bowie police report. One of the suspects allegedly implied he had a knife. The suspects knocked the victim to the ground, kicking and hitting him in the head, face and back, police said.

The victim told police the suspects told him to “keep [his] head down” and “don’t look up.”

The suspects took the victim’s Blackberry, driver’s license, debit card and $2, according to the report.

The victim went to the old City Hall building to report the incident. Bowie police met the victim there.

The victim was treated for minor injuries by the Prince George’s County EMS.

A search of the neighborhood for the suspects was unsuccessful.

Bowie Police Chief John Nesky said the department was working on developing leads in the case. Nesky said there have been no other similar cases recently. He added that the only other recent robbery occurred on Racetrack Road two days earlier but there were “different descriptions” in that incident.

In that incident, two men were then robbed by two men at the Bowie Training Center on Racetrack Road, according to a police report. Both victims sustained serious injuries, according to police. Police are still looking for the two suspects in that case.

I have a friend who was walking to work at NASA in Greenbelt at 9 am in the morning and he was beaten up and robbed of his iPhone and wallet. Yes, we should use common sense after dark but it's never a good idea to blame the victim.

No doubt at all that WILL happen.. but I bet it will take LESS than 5 years! Concealed carry permit should be getting easier to get.... 1) print out the news section of the Bowie Patch, 2) attach to application, 3) Granted! (I wish!)

@goldman - You can easily tell the difference between the two breeds by looking at the other end of the leash.
