Glen Burnie: Accident
A 49-year-old woman was in critical condition as of Monday morning after she was thrown from her car during an accident on Friday afternoon, police said.
According to a police press release, Amanda Rose Howard-Katchmark, 30, of Odenton was driving a GMC Yukon heading north on Crain Highway in the center lane at about 11:30 a.m. Friday as she approached Crainmont Drive.
Elizabeth Lisa Quinones, 49, of Glen Burnie was driving a Dodge Neon heading west on Crainmont and preparing to cross Crain Highway to go into the Giant shopping center.
Police said that when Quinones' light turned green and she began to cross Crain Highway, Howard-Katchmark failed to stop at a red light and sped through the intersection, hitting Quinones' Neon on the driver's side.
The Neon was pushed across the intersection, hit the curb of the center median and began to roll over. Quinones, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car out of the passenger side window and onto the center median.
Medics transported Quinones to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore to be treated for injuries that were life-threatening. Police said she was in critical condition as of Monday morning. Howard-Katchmark was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.
Police said the initial investigation leads them to believe driver error by Howard-Katchmark is a contributing factor to the accident. They said there was no evidence that alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, which remains under investigation.
