Updated (8 p.m.)— Police believe alcohol and excessive speed led to a vehicle wreck in Glen Burnie that hospitalized four people early Monday morning.

The police's preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Chrysler was traveling at excessive speed when it collided with a 2002 Nissan Xterra.

The two vehicles collided at the intersection of Stewart Avenue and Old Stage Road Monday morning in Glen Burnie, injuring four, two seriously, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Department Division Chief Keith Swindle.

The wreck at about 8 a.m. resulted in four people being taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma, Swindle said.

The four victims include:
  • 57-year-old female, flown by helicopter with serious, life-threatening injuries
  • 22-year-old male, flown by helicopter with serious, life-threatening injuries
  • 22-year-old male, flown by helicopter with serious, nonlife-threatening injuries
  • 23-year-old male, taken by ambulance with serious, nonlife-threatening injuries 
As of 10 a.m., the scene of the incident remained closed and under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Traffic Safety Division, Swindle said.
