Annapolis, MD (April 2104) The St. Mary’s Parish, St. Vincent de Paul Spring Food Drive held at St. John Neumann Church in Annapolis was a huge success. Parishioners exceeded previous record-breaking donation amounts, setting a very high standard for generosity for both food drive donations and the volunteering of their time and energy.
Volunteers collected 840 bag of groceries were collected and delivered to the Light House, filling the entire Community Room. Parishioners also donated $300 in cash to the drive.
Coordinating the food drive is a huge undertaking, from stapling the flyers to the bags, handing the bags out at Mass, collecting the food and donations and finally delivering everything to the Shelter. According to Elaine Larison, Food Drive Coordinator, “This year was especially challenging as we had snow and rain during the drive. The Spring Food Drive required the efforts, generosity, time and energy of many, many volunteers. Everyone involved showed demonstrated love for the less fortunate in our community.”
Father Kevin Milton and Deacon Leroy Moore, of St Mary’s Parish blessed the donated food , the parishioners who had donated the food, the volunteers who had worked on the food drive and the clients who will receive the food.
Pam Siemer, Director of Development for Light House, spoke of the strong partnership that continues between St. Mary’s and the Shelter. She said, “it is even more important now that government budget cuts have resulted in the Shelter seeing a substantial increase in requests for food from the community. We are grateful to St. Mary’s parishioners for their continued support.”
