When the President delivered his State of the Union last week, he demonstrated bold leadership on finding new and innovative ways to cut waste, increase efficiencies, improve education — from Pre-School to higher education — keep families safe, and create jobs. The vision the President laid out will move our nation forward. Here in Maryland, we are already working towards stronger families, stronger communities, and a stronger America.
Reducing Gun Violence
Here’s what President Obama Said:
“Overwhelming majorities of Americans – Americans who believe in the 2nd Amendment – have come together around commonsense reform – like background checks that will make it harder for criminals to get their hands on a gun.”
“Police chiefs are asking our help to get weapons of war and massive ammunition magazines off our streets, because they are tired of being outgunned.”
And here’s what we’ve done and are doing in Maryland:
Whether it’s horrific mass shootings like the ones in Newtown and Columbine, or murders on the streets of our cities, we lose far too many American lives each year to gun violence.
That’s why we’ve introduced a comprehensive approach to reduce gun violence focused on three strategies: (1) gun safety; (2) school safety; and (3) mental health.
1.) Gun safety: We should ban military-style assault weapons, limit large ammunition capacity, and require licenses for handgun purchases. We respect the rights of hunters and sportsmen and that’s why our licensing requirements will NOT apply to shotguns or rifles.
2.) School safety: We will invest in security upgrades for schools, including cameras at entrances, automatically locking doors, shatterproof glass and buzzer entrance systems. We will also establish a “Maryland Center for School Safety,” which will amplify our efforts by gathering meaningful data and serving as a central hub for collaboration between our federal, state and local law enforcement partners.
3.) Mental heath: First and foremost, we will work to keep guns away from people who may be dangerous to themselves or others as a result of mental illness. We will also improve data sharing practices between federal and state officials, and invest more to improve mental health services so we can intervene early and reduce the potential for violent behavior. Finally, we will expand crisis intervention teams, expand response services, and establish a center for excellence on early intervention for serious mental illness.

He just said he will bring justice to the people who kill our citizen's but the lead suspect was just recently released in the Benghazi scandal is long gone. He promised a more transparent government but that is not quite the case even going as far as prerecording press announcements in order to avoid scrutiny. His recent about face on campaign donations indicates he was not truthful with the American public. That addresses your topic of what the president said. Now to what you have done is bankrupt the middle class by taxing us to death in order that you can proceed with your unabashed political agenda. As for your WH ambitions your not even in the top ten Democratic choices. http://www.nationaljournal.com/politics/top-10-democratic-presidential-contenders-for-2016-20121106 If you're going to put this propaganda out there be prepared for some honest feedback. You have chosen to make a left hand turn which will work until the free stuff runs out and the working class that has to pay for this stuff wake up and put an end to it. Your mistake is eventually the country will run out of gravy and who do you think they will hold responsible? The free phone scandal story on last nights news tells the whole story.
Now here is another take from Time Magazine (not exactly right wing) on their take on the direction of the nation. Whoever wrote this state propaganda needs to do some research because since 2011, the date of the article, I don't see any significant progress except an inflated stock market that according to the WSJ will suffer a 10% correction this summer. http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,2056723,00.html
I think based on the direction the liberal left is leading this nation, by then the goodies will run out and the bills will become due. Last night on the "Factor", they found a divorcee with two children that was making $80,000 a year on welfare in Pennsylvanian and the report came from CBS which is not a conservative network. They broke it down to the penny and interviewed her. She is now going to college (payed for by the government) and said why work when you can get it for nothing. She went on to say the government makes it hard to go out and actually work when you don't have to. If the defense cuts kick in the MD will take a hit and that could impact their bond rating. Given our rank as one of the highest taxed states in the country this will not sit well with voters nationwide.. O'Malley is so far left I don't think his tax and spend agenda will hold up after Obama leaves office and the check is due.
