Did you ever have a friend in high school or college that was an exchange student? Remember that feeling when you got to show them around and let them try everything new? You can do that now that you are an adult, too! Would you be interested in hosting a high school foreign exchange student for the 2014-15 school year?
Annapolis families interested in hosting an international student from one of 60+ countries can speak with Tchi Sogoyou at 618 690 0755 or via email at email@example.com .
If you can’t host, but would like to help, YFU is a non-profit organization and works mostly with volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, as the area representative for the exchange students, or volunteer in another capacity, please contact us at www.yfuusa.org. Area representatives support the students and their families throughout the exchange year. Jan
15 years old male from Germany
School, outdoor activities and family keep Jan busy. He enjoys team sports and would like to play some in the US – soccer, which he has played for several years or others. Jan also participates in geo-caching with his family. He lives in a small village, quite close to his grandmother, for whom he often performs small chores such as yard work or helping around the house. At home, he also babysits his younger sister as well. Jan is used to a curfew, checking in and some limitations on computer use. Jan is active in school too. Although quiet, he is a class representative and a math tutor. He belongs to a project group which takes part in science competitions and has taken special science courses. Recently Jan went to Scandinavia in a class studying the land, people and culture. But Jan is not all work. He goes to movies, plays computer games, dances and “just hangs out with friends.” He likes to travel and swim. Jan wants to be a real part of your family: he feels that taking part in his Host’s daily life will be his most valuable experience as an exchange student.
