Wawa, Inc. today announced the celebration of the grand opening of their brand new store located at 7124 Ritchie Highway, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. To commemorate the opening of the store, Wawa is hosting a hoagie building competition between members of the Anne Arundel County Police Department and the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

On Friday, November 30th at 10:00AM, Wawa will officially commence the grand opening ceremony. Members of the Glen Burnie community and local officials, Wawa executives, store associates and Wawa’s mascot, Wally Goose, will be on hand to share in and celebrate the grand opening festivities and ribbon cutting ceremony.  As part of the event, Wawa’s Chief Information Officer, Suzanne Keenan, will lead the event, giving brief remarks about the history of Wawa and thanking everyone in the community who works hard to keep us safe.

Immediately following the ribbon cutting ceremony, the hoagie building contest will begin.  The Anne Arundel County Police Department will compete against the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.  Each team will be challenged to build as many hoagies as they can in the traditional Wawa way in three minutes.  On behalf of the winning and runner up teams, Wawa will donate $1,000 and $500, respectively, to the winner and runner up.

The Glen Burnie location features Wawa’s new store design prototype, including 4,085 square feet of retail space and additional gasoline facility, as well as new in-store graphics, colors, restroom design, and merchandising features.  Donna Reesey will serve as General Manager of the store, leading a team of 40 associates, all of which are new positions brought to the area through the development of the store.

“Our grand opening celebration is a wonderful way to show our support, bring the community together and provide the Glen Burnie community with the Wawa products it loves” said Chief Information Officer, Suzanne Keenan.

The Glen Burnie store offers customers numerous Wawa brands such as the award-winning Wawa coffee (195 million cups sold annually); the Sizzliä, Wawa’s hot breakfast sandwich; a full-service deli; Wawa Bakery; Wawa’s built-to-order hoagies (80 million sold annually); and Wawa’s beverage line of dairy products, juices and teas.

About Wawa, Inc.

Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey.  Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, Pa, in 1902.  The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process.  As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960’s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for dairy products.  Today, Wawa is your all day, everyday stop for fresh, built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATM's.   A chain of more than 600 convenience retail stores (300 offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia and Central Florida. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshly-brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order specialty beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.

This is good for Glen Burnie. It would be nice if we could get more restaurants and a renovated mall. Marley Station needs a make over and the Centre at Glen Burnie is a waste of space.

Glad we're getting a WaWa store here! Love the variety of coffee they have! This will be a great place to stop, especially thru the cold winter months.
