Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth Talent Search awarded  Monsignor Slade a position among the Top Schools in Maryland for 2009. The school is very large, with on-site recreational facilities and a wide variety of extracurricular activities and student organizations. The curriculum is values-based, and focuses as much on instilling Catholic, Christ-like sensibilities in the students as it does on academic achievement. 

Community service is also highlighted here, and students are required to participate in year-round service learning projects before they can graduate. Unique to this private, religious institution is the Human Sexuality and AIDS education program that begins in the early elementary years and develops with age-appropriate curriculum each year until graduation.
