As the 10th anniversary of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 approaches, Patch is undertaking a new project to document how those events have affected your lives, your family, your business and your community.
Millions of people across the country were affected by the 9/11 attacks. Some experienced the tragic loss of a loved one, some found an inspiring way to help those who were grieving and others experienced a political awakening. To help reflect the endless diversity of their experiences, Patch looked out across our sites to pull together 911 snapshots of everyday Americans whose lives were changed by the events of that day. Anne Arundel County residents and officials came together Sunday morning to remember Sept. 11, 2001.  The ceremony took place at the county's Police and Fire Department headquarters in Millersville and featured appearances from County Executive John R. Leopold, Fire Chief John Ray and Fort Meade's Installation Commander Col. Edward Rothstein.  A 9/11 memorial of steel beams from the World Trade Center already stood on the lawn of the Police Department, but Sunday's ceremony saw new additions to the memorial. When four planes were hijacked by terrorists in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks that killed people in New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania, the way people travel in the United States was forever changed.
