Take Pride: Pat Dungan of Food Lion
If your work ethic were to be graded, would you score an A, E or somewhere in between?
Have you ever known someone to ‘hustle’ while working on the job?
Some take their time or are extremely slow, but there are some that can run circles around others.
I know the latter who is a hard worker with pep in his step. Weldon "Pat" Dungan from Glen Burnie works at Food Lion in Burwood Plaza.
Perhaps you’ve seen him bagging your groceries or handing you a shopping cart. He is retired from NSA after 36 years of service and is now working part-time at this grocery store for almost seven years.
Dungan does a little bit of everything that is needed in the store such as bagging, cleaning the restrooms, returning items to their shelves, keeping the hand sanitizers full and keeping the carts organized.
The one thing you will notice is how quick and energized he is with any task he is given.
I caught up with him while he was putting some unwanted produce back in its place and asked him how he keeps his energy up. He shrugged and stated that it has to get done.
“I was told that my grandmother nicknamed me Pat after General Patton since I was born during the war and it just stuck,” Dungan said.
Perhaps that is how he keeps his energy up since Patton was best known for his leadership, and he appears to be in very good shape.
Others do notice his energy and say that he doesn’t even take breaks.
“He gets us everything we need and takes good care of us,” said cashier, Miranda.
You will see Dungan hustling different days during the week, but they will be during mid-day hours.

This man is always there, I'm in the store a couple of times a week and all different hours and I've never seen him idle. I was thinking to my self just the other day that he's probably the hardest working guy I've ever seen in a supermarket.
