A collision Tuesday afternoon between a van and a truck sent a man to Shock Trauma in critical condition, according to Anne Arundel County police.
Shortly after 2 p.m., a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling southbound on Ritchie Highway approached the intersection at Furnace Branch Road, where southbound traffic was stopped for a red light.
A Dodge Caravan was making a left turn with a green arrow onto Furnace Branch Road as the pickup truck pulled into a right turn lane. The pickup truck entered the intersection against the light, traveled straight and was struck by the minivan.
The truck rotated after the initial collision and struck a light support pole. Paramedics removed the passenger of the pickup truck, who was partially trapped inside the vehicle, and transported him to University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
Police identified the passenger of the pickup truck as Daniel Joseph Boss Jr., 26, of Stevensville, and said driver error on the part of the pickup truck was the contributing factor in the collision.
