Police Announce DUI Checkpoint
The checkpoint will be held in the northern part of Anne Arundel County on Sept. 28.
Anne Arundel County police will be conducting a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint in the northern part of the county on Friday, Sept. 28.
Police said the checkpoint will be conducted along Ritchie Highway near 11th and Townsend avenues in Brooklyn Park.
Increased patrols and DUI checkpoints prove to be effective in reducing the number of alcohol-related crashes, said police. Some research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop significantly when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted.
According to a police press release, previous checkpoints in Anne Arundel County resulted in 397 arrests for DUI and 109 arrests for drug offenses.
Police also said officers will be conducting enforcement focusing on speeding, and aggressive and distracted driving.
Citizens can report drivers acting in a reckless manner by calling 911 or 410-222-8610 (non-emergency number) and providing a description of the vehicle, a tag number and location.
