New Year's Crash in Glen Burnie Sends Man to Shock Trauma

One driver is in critical but stable condition after the collision early Tuesday.

A single vehicle crash only minutes into the new year sent a man to Shock Trauma, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Shortly after 12 a.m. on Jan. 1, police responded to a crash in Glen Burnie and found a vehicle that left the roadway on Route 10 and struck the bridge supports for the I-695 overpass.

Medical crews removed the driver of the vehicle, who was partially ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. Crews transported him to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. The driver, Daniel Alan Leitner, 24, of Baltimore, remains in critical but stable condition at Shock Trauma, according to police.

Police said an initial investigation shows Leitner was traveling northbound on Route 10 and failed to negotiate a curve in the road, which led his vehicle to leave the roadway, striking a light pole and a bridge support on the beltway overpass.

Speed and impairment may have been contributing factors to the crash, according to police.

No excuse for drinking and driving! a case of idiot got behind the wheel, luckily he didnt take someone's life because of his actions. What is it with new years eve? come on, you can call a taxi! free rides to your house,no need to get behind the wheel.

First of all I can tell you he was not drinking and driving. I have know Danny for about 12 years now and he would never drink and drive. However, as to impairment in today's time can be related to anything that stopped him from driving i.e. cell phone, radio, but there is no way to know unless you were there which you werent so don't throw accusations around on a good person for a statement of impairment immediately meaning alcohol.

I saw his car mins before he crashed. He was speeding bc he flew by me however he wasn't all over the road to suggest he was drinking and driving. I wish people would stop judging other people before they know all the facts. I hope he pulls through. Prayers for with him and his family.

Sharon, this is my lil cousin. He was driving ANGRY.. theres a difference. he had just got into a argument with his girlfriend. let the police do their jobs. if he was somehow in the wrong he will deal with that when it comes, and his family will be by his side. So unless your a cop who responded to the accident and seen first hand what he was or wasn't or if you want to give thanks or prayers to him for a speedy recovery you shouldn't be saying anything.

U shouldn't judge people if it was someone close to you I'm sure your opinion would be different. He was suppose to have a place to stay that night but was told to leave because of an argument. All we can do is pray n hope he's ok
