Mission BBQ handed out free sandwiches to veterans and active members of the armed forces on Monday, while Gino's Burgers and Chicken gave out free cheeseburgers to those who have served.

Charm City Cakes, the Baltimore-based company of Food Network fame, even got in on the event with a cake showing the iconic scene of soldiers raising a flag on Iwo Jima.
