Carl Snowden Faces Marijuana Possession Charges

Reports say the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office was charged on Friday.

Carl O. Snowden, the civil rights director of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, was charged with marijuana possession in Baltimore on Friday, according to online court records.

Snowden's attorney told The Capital that he is confident Snowden will be found not guilty of the drug charge and that he was with another person in his car Friday when he was pulled over by police for a broken tail light. Snowden is scheduled for a May 3 court date in Baltimore, according to online records.

WJZ-TV reported that Snowden filed a $20 million lawsuit against Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold for having a dossier complied against him.

Snowden said he would take a sabbatical from the attorney general's office to pursue charges without a conflict of interest, according to WJZ-TV.

It was revealed in March that Snowden was investigated by Leopold, who was indicted on charges that he used his security detail improperly.

The indictment includes allegations that Leopold instructed members of his security detail to produce dossiers on his political challengers—including Snowden and Joanna Conti, his Democratic opponent in the 2010 race for county executive.

The Maryland office of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) lodged a request for information about Leopold's actions on behalf of Snowden.

According to The Capital, a county judge reinstated a drunken driving conviction for Snowden in February.

It's comforting to know that someone of such high moral and ethical character is representing us in the Maryland Attorney General's office. He moved up into that position after representing the county so well under Janet Owens as one of her cabinet members. <This whole comment is 'tongue in cheek'>

If your the right color you can have any job in the State that you want. Maybe he should apply for a cabinet position with Obama - I'm sure he qualifies.

And, really, if your job title has "civil rights" anywhere in it, let's call it what it is: You're being paid an obscene salary -you're welcome!- because you're black. And know how to capitalize on being black.

Now he can capitalize on being black by claiming it was racial profiling that got him pulled over. He has brought discredit to himself and harmed those whom he pledged to protect.

Why not just say he practices the "Sharpton/Jackson School of Civil Rights"?

What is interesting is the wording of his attorney--he will be found not-guilty. Not that his client is innocent.

Maybe Dr Ashworth can get Carl Snowden to speak to the students attending the Man-Up Program at Arundel Middle School.

Yes CM that would be a very good idea. I'm quite chore he would like that and the students would like it even better.Who else could tell them better about the struggles that they may face than him. That is a very good idea CM. Hopefully she will.

Looks like Leopold was on the right track in investigating him.

Marijuana is the safest drug with actual benefits for the user as opposed to alcohol which is dangerous, causes addiction, birth defects, and affects literally every organ in the body. Groups are organizing all over the country to speak their minds on reforming pot laws. I drew up a very cool poster featuring Uncle Willie Nelson and The Teapot Party for the cause which you can check out on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/vote-teapot-2011.html Drop in and let me know what you think!

Isn't if funny, the excuse, "it's not mine, it"s my friend's", is a typical response to being caught. Did't his Momma ever teach him, "guilty by association?". His constant actions and rants are a disgrace to himself and to the group of people he represents.

If you break the law, you should be charged. If you break the rules you should be fired. Get rid of Snowden and Leopold. People get fired for lesser offenses, like saying the wrong thing or making a bad joke.

For Snowden to survive multiple DUI's, and now drug charges, me thinks he has some REALLY good dirt on a very powerful politician... I would have lost my private industry job in a millisecond for these type of shenanigans!

Good thing he is sueing the county for 20 million dollars, he needs to support his drug habit. And BTW, Snowden ALWAYS makes EVERYTHING about being black. Just wait until it happens here too.

I can't understand how the City of Annapolis employs this man to be in charge of HACA, the agency that provides public housing to the city's most vulnerable residents... No wonder crime in Public Housing is up 44% - look who the ringleader is... a guy with marijuana charges, multiple DUI's etc... yikes... He must have some good dirt on a very important politician to be able to get a hall pass to do whatever he wants and escape unscathed, and without risk of losing his high paying government jobs. These are the types of rolemodels we're providing to people in need?
