Business Owners: Have You Claimed Your Free Listing?
Here's a quick rundown on the benefits of claiming your Patch Places listing.
When I joined Patch in the fall of 2010, one of the first things I had to do was help build a robust directory of businesses in Glen Burnie. You can find that directory now under the heading "Places" at the top of this Patch site.
This is a free directory that includes all of the basic information your customer needs including a description of your business, hours of operation, accepted payment methods and more. There are also a few photos of each place.
Many business owners, however, are not taking advantage of the full power of these listings.
By claiming their listing, business owners have the power to supercharge their presence on Patch.
What Does ‘Claiming’ Mean?
When you claim your listing, Patch gives you the power to add information to your listing and to interact better with customers. You can:
- Upload photos and videos to the listing.
- Post PDFs of menus and specials
- Add information, such as special hours, parking information or prices.
- Get up-to-the-second information on who's reviewing your business.
- Link your listing to your Facebook or Twitter account
How Do I Claim a Listing?
If you are a business owner or manager, start by searching for your business listing in the search box above. If you are located in Glen Burnie, you probably already have a listing. If you don’t find it, shoot me an email and we’ll get you added ASAP for free if you fall within the Glen Burnie coverage boundaries.
Once you find your listing, click on it and then find the link that says “Claim Your Listing.” A form will pop up asking for some basic information. Within a few days, someone from Patch will reach out to verify that you are the owner or manager. Once you’re approved, you will see a “Manage Your Listing” button at the top of the page. You'll get access to a "dashboard" that gives you tools to improve your listing.
What Else Do I Get By Claiming?
First, claiming makes it a lot easier to update and improve your listing. You can add information like a link to your website or Facebook page, post updated hours, or tell people about ongoing discounts or events. Some of the information in the listing can’t be changed, but if you don’t like the description we have of your business, there’s a form to request a new one.
By claiming, you’ll be able to more easily see what customers are saying about your business. If someone writes a review, you’ll get an email notice about it. This will make it easier to respond to customer concerns and reach out to people to post new reviews.
Claiming your listing doesn't cost a dime. Adding information, uploading photos and video and interacting with customers is free. Patch does offer enhanced listing capabilities for a fee, but you'll get more information about that when you claim.
