As tragic as this is, and I do hope they all recover, but a number of nights lately I have come upon teens walking along side the roadways and they were all wearing dark clothing which was not at all visible until I was right at them. That is also a reality that many of these roads do not have street lights to help illuminate but granted lights cant be everywhete. At night walkers are not visible and anyone who is going to do this MUST wear bright light colored or better yet reflective type clothing to avoid this happening again.

Why does the driver have to be at fault? MOST of the time, these sorts of accidents are pedestrian error. It was DARK, the peds were walking across a highway on-ramp, did they not check to see if anyone was turning onto the ramp before they entered the road way? The driver was certainly NOT expecting peds to be there.
The driver would not have seen the peds until AFTER he or she made the turn and his/her headlights shone upon the peds who should have waited for the car to pass before the crossed the ramp.
If I am walking in the dark, you're damned skippy I am going to be EXTRA cautious and aware of vehicles. Stop being so damned complacent and pay attention; pedestrians need to take some responsibility to look out for themselves and not expect drivers to stop for them.

Hmmmm....my opinion for what its worth? Thank God the kids are all going to be okay. I am sure both the pedestrians and the driver were heartbroken and horrified by what happened. Maybe we should all be glad this time it turned out the way it has! Just saying......

Ultimately there's absolutely no infrastructure in that area to allow pedestrian traffic so it's only a matter of time that something like this happens. That being said, there were four pedestrians. How do you not see four pedestrians and still claim that you were paying attention or being a cautious driver?

IT WAS DARK! There is NOT a streetlight on that side, and they would not have been in the wash of the headlights until the driver turned across the opposite lanes, which are only 20 feet wide.

There's been a rash of Car vs. Pedestrian in the area the last month or two. Many of them have been the fault of the Pedestrian. There's been a public awareness campaign in D.C. for at least a year addressing Distracted Pedestrians - walking and talking/walking and texting and they step off the curb in front of the bus.

My little brother was one of the 16 year olds. He is home and his friends are home. However he isn't able to walk due to a fractured hip and head injuries. He is determined to get better fast even though the pain is terrible. From what I know they were in plain sight and didn't see the car coming until they were hit. I feel as though all drivers should be alert and cautious at all times especially in areas that are full of teens and small kids.

I wish your brother and the others a speedy recovery.

Perhaps everyone else should quit speculating and wait for the results of the investigation, rather than blaming either party without knowing all of the facts.

i drive that area everyday and mostly after dark it is very dark right at the on ramp and there are no lights or cross walk there but to be fair the side walk is on the other side of the street so why where they not walking there instead of trying to cross the on ramp and i turn onto 100 east and you can not see anything actually until you are on the ramp and why must it always be the drivers fault they were wearind dark clothes when everyone says if you are walking to wear light color clothes or reflective clothing i feel for everyone involved but they should hve been on the sidewalk not the ramp crossing the poor driver must feel horrified by what happened

I drive this road everyday to commute and there are constantly people, not just teens but moms with small children, walking along with rush hour traffic who just wander out into the right hand lane where there is absolutely no shoulder. The law may say pedestrians have the right of way, but common sense and physics says just wandering out into an active lane of traffic in a dark rush hour to be hit by a car weighing a few 1,000 lbs says right or not, you're going to get hurt and you're an idiot.

My daughter was the female. She has broken ribs and punctured lung. To blame anyone is stupid. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Thankful she is alive to pursue her destiny! Praying for the driver as well---it has to be hurting that person emotionally! Can't imagine!
